    • @CJIEngineering
      @CJIEngineering Місяць тому

      In 2020 they didn't offer the max trailering package on the LM2 trucks but I did add the Z71 so I had the 2-speed transfer case. The maximum tow rating on this truck was updated by GM to 9,300 lbs, GCWR 15,000 lbs. My 2023 LZ0 does have the max trailer package, wasn't really required but I wanted the new motor and since it was available I added that option. Thanks for checking and watching.

      @@devinsampare9483 The fuel economy is basically the same. I haven't done the same mpg loop yep but I'm thinking of doing another over in the next few weeks as follow up to this video. I have done a lot of towing to 65mph with the trailer and I'll get about 13.6mpg so that would be around 11.7 mpg @70mph. For sure the LZ0 uses a lot more DEF. You should plan on putting in about 2.5gal every 600miles when towing.

      I have a couple of questions for you. 1. Do you know what code you received? 2. Have you had all of the over the air updates done on your truck? You have the LZ0 engine in your truck and during the break in period you might get emissions performance low codes. There is a break in period for the catalyst that does seem to fix itself but there was also supposed to be an update to make it happen less often/hopefully never. I would be more than happy to look into it if you have a few more details you can share.

    Yay your back! I have the L3B HO in my 2022 Silverado and love it. The thermals you've got are quite good as well (coolant and transmission temps), nice and mostly stable only fluctuating a few degrees here and there. How's your empty MPG been so far? In my Silverado I'm roughly 17-19mpg per tank in the winter, 19-22mpg per tank in the summer with a current lifetime MPG in 20,200mi of 19mpg.

Then in 2023 when it got steel pistons, max tow package and a little bump on torque I bought the standard box version. Even with a stronger rear axle and high GVWR it actually has a little less payload :( I'm not a fan of the displacement on demand that is in the GM V8s so they were never really an option for me.. I have followed you since your first testing of your Silverado. I know you said you wouldn't gain any power/torque when using premium but at the same time as you eluded to, you wouldn't loose any or as much power/torque in those times where its pulling time on 87 either so it could be looked at as a gain. I have tuned my 6.2 Yukon (with the 8 speed) and I have also data logged the difference in timing being pulled when running 87, 91 and 93. The difference between 87 and 91 is pretty big but the difference between 91 and 93 isn't worth the price difference most of the time. I always run the 91 without ethanol. When I ran my 93 test it was with ethanol. That being said when towing I would personally always run 91 and probably 87 when not towing. Spark knock is pretty hard on an engine. Thanks for the video!!

      Thank you for following the channel. I haven't put out much content lately but I'm hoping my process is more refined so I can do some videos more often. Also thanks for the extra detail on octane and knock. I'm curious where you get 91 w/o ethanol. Around me we have 89 rec fuel but it's about $1/gal more than 93. That would be a great test but I'm not sure it's available at enough places for me to do some long distance towing...

      @zachbritton448 Thank you for watching. I have a few questions for you. How often do you tow? How much weight do you typically tow? How far do you normally drive every week? @@CJIEngineering The main thing I am looking at is the fuel economy. I don’t tow very often and if I do, it’s less than 4K lbs. I do commute quite a bit for work which is mostly highway. And I’ve always been a “diesel enthusiast” if you will.

    • @CJIEngineering
      @CJIEngineering 3 місяці тому

      @@zachbritton448 With what you have told me the 3.0l Diesel would be a great choice, IMO. The only caution that I would have for you buying used is trying to find out if the proper oil was used inside the engine since it was new. These engines need the Dexos D oil, low visibility and low ash. This is important because ash can plug up the DPF filter and run over $2,000 to replace. These are a few issues with the LM2 engine, wire harness issues and excessive oil consumption. Both can be fixed, repair the harness and replace the valve cover and the #2 glow plug. The LZ0 has both of these fixed, 2023+ but they also made changes to the security in between the computers that makes it almost impossible to tune the LZ0. The LM2 does have some aftermarket modifications available. My LM2 had both issues, only one was fixed while I owned it. The LZ0 has been rock solid so far, just crossed the 20k mile mark. Let me know if you have any other questions and good luck.

      @CJIEngineering 3 місяці тому

      I don't plan on doing any upgrades on the High Country. The LZ0 is a really great engine right from the factory. If you do upgrades there is a really good chance that the ECU will cause a fault. The 2023 and newer trucks use a more secure network between computers and there is a much higher chance of causing faults. Is there anything specific that you would like to see? I'm going to do a 0-60 towing my camper to compare with the other trucks and probably a MPG Loop also. I have posted the oil analysis comparing several of my vehicles, there is a link in the 2020 LM2 oil change video description. Thanks for watching and asking a question.

      @garvdarb, I'm intrigued, can you explain a little more what you mean? I knew that this job wasn't difficult, but while I was at my local Chevrolet dealership getting some other warranty work done and I asked if they could switch out my fuel filter and how much. Their answer was yes,& the cost was $265.00. 😮 I told them to hold off.

    I get the same issues exactly in my 1500 Duramax! I feel like I notice it more often when I spend a lot of time idling or just in park and not driving... And then if I go back to driving for a period of time it goes away.. but even still the error message persists for a few engine cycles. This is so weird and definitely concerning for me.

    Did you pull an open or enclosed trailer 5x10?

    • @CJIEngineering
      @CJIEngineering 11 місяців тому

      Yes, I pulled a couple of enclosed trailers. A U-Haul 5x8 trailer and a 6' tall V-Nose 6'x12' Aluminum trailer. The U-Haul pulled really well, I would lock out 6th gear so it would go down the road in 5th at 70mph. Plenty of torque and all the temperatures stayed in check. With the bigger trailer the wind resistance is a lot higher and I would say it's the upper limit for this powertrain. No issues, it stays in 5th without a problem but you are putting in more throttle. Just my opinion I guess. Thanks for the question and let me know if you have any others. I do have some footage of a comparison tow that I did with the U-Haul but I wasn't sure if anyone was interested in seeing it :)

    After seeing this it turned out to be almost exactly the same as my 2021 Chev 3 liter turbo 4x4 after a 154 mile run, but in Canada giving me 37.12 miles per Canadian (Imperial) gallon which is about 1.2 times bigger than a US gallon. Also set at 120 kph (75 mph) and staying in the center lane of 3 lanes and land elevation conditions were also pretty close to the same. From my perspective if this engine holds up, it will be a classic as the low to mid-range torque and fuel milage is phenomenal.

    Hi Chad, last week the dealer replaced the nox sensor and re-set the engine light. I was good for about a week. Today, not only did the engine light return but I was unable to start the engine, wouldn't turn over. Full battery. The situation seems to be that the truck was parked on a very steep driveway incline (very steep). I wondered if the engine wasn't getting fuel because of the steep incline. I turned on the ignition, rolled the truck (in neutral) down to level ground and tried again, the egine started! Come to think of it, last week or two weeks ago when the engine light came on the first time, I was on a very steep incline too. Is this a thing? Do steep hills cause a fuel sensor malfunction or a fuel starvation problem? (fyi, both times had a full tank of fuel). Any wisdom would be welcome, thanks.....Ken

      Ken, sorry to hear about your check engine light. I really can't say why it might be coming on, there are probably 1000 or more reasons why. I recommend OBDLink MX+ adapter or purchasing the Banks iDash. The iDash is about double the price but it works great. I bought the one that allows you to log the parameters to a micro SD card, and additional cost but I like to review the data... Purely a nice to have but not required. Let me know what you find out. Thanks

    How do you know what gear you are in?

    • @CJIEngineering
      @CJIEngineering Рік тому

      There are a few ways. The easiest/free version is to put the truck into "L" and it will display the maximum gear. If you shift up and the RPMs don't change then you are in a gear just under the one being displayed. You can downshift and see if the RPMs go up then you know you were in the last gear. I use a Bluetooth adapter and Torque Pro app or a iDash gauge from Banks. Both display the gear that you are really in, even in drive.

    My 2020 at 41,000 recently threw at Service Exhaust 175 miles warning 500 miles from home in St George Utah. I pulled into the dealer and they plugged it in and ended up re flashing the ECM. I continued onto Moab and it threw the code again (ambient temp 70 deg F) Started it again the following morning and CEL cleared until later in the day going into Denver. Took it to the dealer and they found a bad NoX sensor, a bad EGR valve and a faulty connector. In all I was stranded for five days waiting for the parts and labor. These sensors are very difficult to access at the back of the motor under the dash. All covered under warranty but I have the same concerns about it happening when I am not lucky enough to be close to a dealer. Great vids Chad
